Well, what else can he say? admit that the press is a propaganda tool that is losing ground for lack of objectivity and bias reporting? admit that educated people dismiss our press? it is a known fact around the world what our press is like. i bet he knows it too. it is not the first time we hear leaders say things that are far fetched to the point of incredulity and insulting to the speaker's inteligence. i wonder how they can live with doing this over and over again.

I think the only "free, professional and responsible media" (meeting all three criteria) you'll find in Singapore is ONLINE, not offline.

Blah, Blah ,Blah and Blah.
Kind of sad to hear that they are trumpeting their own cause. Even sadder, the fact that they refuse to face the fact that they are losing readers, viewers from their lack of diverse views. Views that might be controversial But valid. The worst is the Asean coverage. It's better to tell the story as a whole than to selectively censor stuff that is the true value of the report. BBC(even malaysia media) have a better coverage on the troubled child.

If he says, the trend doesn't worry him, then he should go and skipper the Titanic, that has to be the greatest understatement in Singapore History.

Fact: Circulation is stagnating.

Fact: The uptake of "new" generation readers is nose diving.

Fact: Advertising Revenue is going South.

What we have here is someone who obviously has no idea how to appraise a situation correctly and accurately.

"Lee Boon Yang argued that mainstream newspapers and broadcasters had, in their favour, "professionalism and objectivity"."

Who even takes him seriously? Not the serious people.

Good grief ! Istanology is becoming a branch of Kremlinology. So we have a "free" press rather than an "independent" press. BFD
